ARENA nominated for a Grand Off Award


ARENA was nominated for a Grand Off Award, in the category of Best Fiction.

This year, 6 films were selected for this award, out of 895.

"World Off Film Awards is the most important event promoting independent cinema in Poland and one of the most significant initiatives of its kind all over the world. Independent cinema came into existence along with the invention of camera and it can nowadays boast numerous extraordinary productions. ARENA in TRIBECA

It's an honor to announce that Arena was selected to be part of the official competition for short films of the Tribeca Film Festival 2010, running April 21 - May 2 in New York.

The Tribeca Film Festival was founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff. The mission of the festival is "to enable the international film community and the general public to experience the power of film by redefining the film festival experience."

With over 250 films and 1,000+ screenings in the last editions and an attendance of 400.000 people the Tribeca Film Festival has become one of the most prominent film festivals in the world.

Arena: Italian Prémiere in Salerno

The italian prémiere of Arena will happen at the 15th Linea d'Ombra - Festival Culture Giovani, running 13-18 April in the italian town of Salerno.

The fifteenth edition of Linea d’Ombra tries to deal with the theme of identity in contemporary cultures, analyzing it through art forms such as cinema, performing art and music.

Arena is part of the competitive section Corto Europa.

Arena in Barcelona

Arena was selected to participate in the 12th Mecal - International Short Film Festival of Barcelona, running 9th-18th April 2010.

This year, Mecal has received more short films than ever, nearly 3.500 and it has prepared the best selection for the festival. Mecal 2010 will have the habitual sections in the official competition: International, Documentary and Obliqua. In the sections on competition there will be short films internationally recognized.

ARENA in Mexico

We're very happy to make known that Arena is selected to participate in the competition of the 25th Guadalajara International Film Festival, running 12th-19th March.

The festival is considered the most prestigious film festival in Latin America and among the most important Spanish language film festivals in the world. The festival is the premier showcase for new work from Mexican and international independent filmmakers. The last edition had an impressive 130.000 audience.

Arena is one of the 12 ibero-american films selected for the Short Film Official Section.

ARENA in Las Palmas


Arena
was invited to participate in The International Film Festival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, running 12th - 20th March 2010.

The festival will present in its 11th edition a parallel program on the New Portuguese Cinema, showing 11 long-features and 6 shorts.

The International Film Festival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria ran for the first time at the beginning of the 21st century, in the year 2000, and can be proud of having lived up to its expectations, as a defender of creative and independent productions, outside the mainstream.

Arena will be screened in this portuguese retrospective.

ARENA in Finland

It's a great pleasure to announce the selection of Arena to be part of the official selection of the Tampere Film Festival.

Tampere Film Festival is among the three most important European short film festivals and celebrates its 40th anniversary in March 10th–14th, 2010. The most anticipated short film event in the spring-wintry town expects 30 000 visitors. In addition to the local audience, approximately 800 professional guests will be present at the festival. 140 of them are international guests.

ARENA in Spain

The European Short Film Festival FEC Cambrils-Reus selected Arena to be part of its competitive program.

The FEC is a festival devoted to European short films and contemporary videocreation. The FEC Project sees the short film as a means rather than an end, so it is open not just to filmmakers but also to visual or plastic artists who use film as a language in which to express themselves. A European panel of judges from the world of cinema and the arts makes the FEC a festival with its own particular and unique criteria within the panorama of film festivals.

The 12th FEC Cambrils-Reus runs from February 24th to 27th in Cambrils, and from March 3rd to 6th 2010 in Reus, where Arena will be screened.

ARENA in Scotland

Arena will have its Scottish premiere at that Glasgow Short Film Festival running 19th - 21th, as part of the major Glasgow Film Festival.

Scotland’s leading independent short film programmers The Magic Lantern returns for a third year with a core competition programme celebrating emerging international filmmakers whose innovative, experimental and rule-breaking work introduces them as the strong new voices of cinema. This year GSFF introduces a Best International Short Film Award, judged by a jury of international and local guests, with all 33 invited filmmakers competing for the cash prize.

ARENA in Greece

It's an honor to announce that Arena will have its greek premiere at the Athens International Short Film Festival.

The International Short Film Festival Psarokokalo is an annual festival held every February in Athens. The festival is part of a project aiming to research, promote and develop the art of filmmaking. The festival program includes screenings of short films from Greece and abroad as well as audiovisual events, masterclasses, exhibitions and live concerts.

The quality of its scrennings, lectures, exhibitions it has managed to make it a reference point for cinephiles, filmmakers, professionals and new artists.

The 4th edition of the International Short Film Festival of Athens Psarokokalo will be held from 1 to 7 February 2010.

ARENA in Iran

It's a pleasure to announce that Arena was selected by the 28th Fajr International Film Festival - جشنواره بین المللی فیلم فجر - running in Tehran, from the 25th January until the 4th February 2010.

The Fajr International Film Festival is Iran's annual film festival, held every February in the Iranian capital city.

The festival, started in 1982, is under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture in Iran. It takes place every year on the anniversary of the Iranian Revolution.

ARENA in Rotterdam

We're delighted to announce that Arena was selected to participate in the 39th International Film Festival Rotterdam, running 27 January - 7 February 2010.

During twelve festival days, hundreds of filmmakers and other artists present their work to a large and devoted audience in 24 screening venues located within central Rotterdam. Up to 3,000 press and film industry representatives visit the festival to report and catch the buzz on its premiere.

Arena is described by the festival as a "superior, superbly shot, unemphatic drama" and it will be part of the section Spectrum Shorts.

ARENA in Angers

We are very happy to announce that Arena was selected to be part of the Official Selection of the 22nd Premiers Plans - Angers European First Film Festival.

Since 1989, 80 young directors come to Angers presenting their films to the audience. Last year 69.000 people attended the festival. Some of the most important European directors screened their first films in past editions of the festival, such as Fatih Akin, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Arnaud Desplechin, Xavier Beauvois, Nick Park, Cristi Puiu and Thomas Vinterberg.

Premiers Plans is one of the most important film festivals in Europe, spotlighting new filmmakers with screenings of first European films, presented in 5 competitive sections.

Arena is part of the official European Short Films Competition, together with 7 other short features.

Arena will be screened the 28th January 19h15 at the Congres Auditorium

ARENA in Czech Republic

Arena will be part of the Panorama Section of the 5th Prague Short Film Festival.

The Prague Short Film Festival, organized by the producers of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, will take place on January, 20-24, 2010 in Prague’s Světozor cinema. As in the previous years, this year’s three competition and nine non-competition sections will present the best short films created over the last year by talented young filmmakers from all over the globe.

ARENA opening film in Moscow

Arena is selected to be part of the Moscow Short Film Festival 2009, being screened out of competition. The festivals runs 16-21 December.

Besides four competition screenings of the Moscow debutants in short cinema the festival will include eight out-of-competition screenings.

Within the out-of-competition screenings the festival organizers will offer to the young filmmakers, audience and film fans a possibility to see short films of the years 2008-2009 that were awarded at the world`s best film festivals and the most famous Russian ones.

The film will be screened during the open cerimony of the festival.

ARENA on Wheels

Arena is part of the programe of the 15th Festival on Wheels, running 4-20 December in the cities of Ankara, Artvin and Skopje.

For a whole month every year, the Festival on Wheels has visited different cities with the latest fare from world cinema, sections dedicated to masters, new films from Turkey, short film compilations and special screenings raising social and cultural issues through the medium of film.

Arena in Angola

Arena was selected to be part of the international competition in 2nd Luanda International Film Festival.

ARENA: spanish prémiere in Gijón

We're very happy to announce that Arena will have its spanish prémiere in the 47th Gijón International Film Festival, running November 19-28 2009.

The Festival´s origins date back to 1963 and it's one of the most important film festivals in Spain. Throughout the past few years, some of the most prestigious professionals in independent filmmaking have attended the festival, as subjects of retrospectives and homages, such as Abbas Kiarostami, Aki Kaurismäki, Todd Haynes, Pedro Costa, Paul Schrader, João César Monteiro, Seijun Suzuki, Jem Cohen, Kenneth Anger, Ulrich Seidl, Hal Hartley, Lukas Moodyson, Tsai Ming-liang, Claire Denis or Todd Solondz.

ARENA in Sweden

Arena was selected by the 20th Stockholm Film Festival to be part of its official selection, running between the 18th-29th November.

The Stockholm International Film Festival screens approx 170 films from over 40 countries each year with complimenting screentalks called "Face2Face" where audience members can interact directly with visiting guests, directors and actors, while cruising between movie theatres, seminars and parties.

ARENA in Bulgaria

Arena was invited to participate in this year's edition of Cinemania.

Cinemania started in 1987 as a World Film Panorama. From the very beginning, this film forum became a real vogue among Bulgarian spectators. Most attractive, significant films made worldwide, and not shown in Bulgarian cinema halls, were included in its program.

Arena was selected to participate in the international shorts competition of the 20th Ljubljana International Film Festival - Liffe.

ARENA wins Best Film in Azores

We're very happy to announce that Arena was awarded twice by the Faial Film Fest, in the Azores Archipelago: Best Fiction and Best Film.

Arena also got a Mention by the Onda Curta Prize Jury.

Almost half an year after it's prémiere in IndieLisboa, this was the second time that Arena participated in the competition of a portuguese festival.

ARENA in Pusan


ARENA was selected for the 14th Pusan International Film Festival, in South Korea.

The Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) held annually in South Korea is one of the most important film festivals that is held in Asia. A major focus of the festival is the introduction of new films and directors, particularly those from Asia. In the previous edition, the festival had an audience of 200.000 people.

This is the first time ARENA is screened in Asia.

The 14th Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) will take place 8-16 October 2009.

Arena in Warsaw Film Festival


Arena
was selected for the Warsaw Film Festival.

The Warsaw Film Festival (WFF) is the key international film event in Poland, recognized by FIAPF. The WFF is held every year starting from 1985, always in October during the Polish 'golden autumn'.
Some figures for last year's edition: 244 films (157 features and 87 shorts) from 55 countries, 10 days, 9 screens, 97,000 admissions, 149 filmmakers (directors, producers, actors) presenting their films.

'Arena' selected for the Sarajevo Film Festival

'Arena' was invited to participate in the 15th Sarajevo Film Festival.

The film is selected to be part of the New Currents, a Competition Program "dedicated to the filmmakers who demonstrate daring and characteristic cinematic voices".

The festival will occur between 12th - 20th August 2009.

'Arena' in Curtas Vila do Conde


'Arena' will be screened in the Panorama section of 17th Curtas Vila do Conde - International Film Festival.

This will be the second time that a film directed by João Salaviza is screened in Vila do Conde, after receiving the Take One Prize - for works produced by film schools - in the edition of 2005 with the short film "Duas Pessoas (Two Close)".

The festival will run between 4th - 12th July in Vila do Conde.

ARENA won the PALM D'OR


'ARENA' won the PALM D'OR in the 2009 FESTIVAL DE CANNES.

In the closing ceremony, João Salaviza received the prize by the hands of John Boorman, the President of the Jury for the short films.

'ARENA' made history winning the first PALM D'OR ever for a portuguese film.

IndieLisboa - International Competition


'Arena' was selected for the International Competition of IndieLisboa '09 - International Independent Film Festival.

The festival runs between 23th April - 3rd May in Lisbon, Portugal.

This will be the film's World Premiere.
